Fort Peck: A Special Gathering with N7 and Nike
This past week, we had the incredible honor of joining the Fort Peck Youth Summit in Montana, hosted by Nike N7 and One Team. It was more than a summit. It was a gathering of hearts, stories, movement, and shared purpose—brought together through culture, sport, and community.
Sam McCracken and the Nike N7 team extended a personal invitation for us to take part in this special event. Sam’s decades of work uplifting Native communities through Nike N7 is nothing short of transformative. To be present at one of his final engagements before retirement was both humbling and deeply meaningful. His vision and leadership have opened doors for so many, and we felt that spirit woven into every moment of the summit.
At the heart of our contribution was a screening of my short film, Courage. Sharing this story with the youth of Fort Peck was one of the most powerful experiences I’ve had. After the film, we talked. About identity. About what it means to carry resilience in your bones. About standing tall in who you are. Their reflections were honest, strong, and filled with wisdom beyond their years. Moments like that remind me why we tell these stories in the first place.
We also held a Hoop Dance workshop—something I always look forward to. There’s a unique kind of energy that fills the space when youth step into something new, especially when it connects them to tradition. From the first beat of the drum, they leaned in with joy, curiosity, and such a desire to learn. The room was full of movement, laughter, and that deep cultural heartbeat that reminds us we’re never dancing alone.
My partner, Pyet Despain, also joined us, sharing in the experience with her beautiful heart and presence. From food to story, she brings warmth and wisdom that helps young people feel seen and empowered. Together, we were honored to contribute to a gathering that celebrated Indigenous strength and creativity.
We were not alone. The summit brought together Native changemakers, athletes, artists, and leaders—each one there to pour into the next generation. You could feel the unity. The joy. The collective belief that our youth are sacred, strong, and ready.
To the Fort Peck community—thank you. Your welcome was genuine and your spirit unforgettable.
To Nike, N7, and One Team—thank you for your unwavering investment in Indigenous youth. And to Sam McCracken—thank you for showing us what it looks like to lead with purpose and heart. Your legacy is alive and moving.
