Courage Wins Outstanding Choreography at the Micheaux Film Festival

Courage was honored with Outstanding Choreography at the Micheaux Film Festival in Los Angeles.

This award means so much. Every recognition Courage receives is a reflection of the community that made it possible — a team effort built on shared stories, movement, and meaning.

I’m incredibly grateful to the Micheaux Film Festival for this honor and for recognizing the performance at the heart of Courage. The film’s choreography blends traditional Native hoop dance with cinematic storytelling — a physical expression of resilience, transformation, and healing.

A huge thank you to our incredible team, including Director of Photography, Mario Contini, and Steadicam Operator, Ari Robbins, whose artistry captured the emotion and movement of each scene with so much care. Their experience on projects like Everything Everywhere All at Once, La La Land, and Beef brought a level of visual storytelling that made this performance truly come alive on screen.

Named after pioneering filmmaker Oscar Micheaux, the Micheaux Film Festival celebrates creators whose work uplifts, inspires, and represents diverse voices. To be recognized for performance within that mission is deeply humbling.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support Courage and Indigenous storytelling — every step of this journey is shared with all of you.

Next up, Courage will screen in Los Angeles on November 19, 2025, at The Autry Museum, as part of An Evening of Indigenous Cinema, featuring three Academy-qualified Indigenous short films.
