Honoring Tradition with White Bear Moccasins in Courage
When we set out to make Courage, we knew every detail had to be intentional. From the story itself to the visual elements on screen, we wanted to honor tradition, inspire youth, and pay respect to our elders. That’s why we were so excited to collaborate with Shauna White Bear and her team at White Bear Moccasins.
Shauna’s moccasins are more than footwear, they’re art, history, and healing stitched into every pair. Her journey into moccasin making began during a difficult chapter in her life, when heartbreak and self-doubt transformed into a creative force. She found strength and identity through leatherwork, blending traditional craft with her own unique vision. What started as a gift of love grew into a mission to inspire others, particularly young people, to embrace their talents and live authentically.
Her words resonate deeply with the spirit of Courage:
“Moccasin making is therapeutic for me. I want to unite people, promote a healthy lifestyle, and inspire young people to take control of their lives.” – Shauna White Bear
On screen, the moccasins are more than costume pieces, they symbolize resilience, connection, and identity. They ground the story in authenticity, just as Shauna grounds her craft in cultural tradition and personal expression.
We were also thrilled that Shauna was able to join us at the Courage screening at the first-ever Lone Peak Film Festival. To have her in the audience, witnessing her work on screen alongside our story, was incredibly special.
We’re proud to walk alongside Shauna and share her vision with audiences. Just as Courage encourages young people to embrace who they are, White Bear Moccasins embodies that same message, one stitch at a time.
